State AGs Block Paramount-Warner Bros Merger – Everyone Loses

More than a dozen Democrat State AGs won a court ruling  to delay the merger and the impact was instantaneous.

As is the case with virtually every antitrust “violation”: shareholders lose, workers lose, and consumers lose. The only winners are the lawyers – of course.

Shareholders of both companies have already lost billions of dollars from the delay and stand to lose billions more if the merger is killed by the government, which seems more than likely now.

This means fewer films will be made in Hollywood given that two of the biggest producers and studios  just took a big financial hit. A strange irony is that the unions representing the actors and the screenwriters foolishly lobbied against the merger. They will soon learn this outcome almost surely means fewer Hollywood jobs.

We had naively hoped that the antitrust cops would have learned from the recent debacle of the government moronically blocking the JetBlue and Spirit merger, which led to several thousand airline workers losing their jobs and millions of shareholders getting screwed.
