For more than 20 years now the Massachusetts income tax form has included an option for tax filers to voluntarily pay a 5.85% tax rate instead of the statutory rate of 5.0%.
Barbara Anderson and Citizens for Limited Taxation proposed the voluntary 5.85% rate as a challenge to Massachusetts voters who say they support higher taxes. Filers who believed the state needed more revenue could choose to pay more themselves.
So are the Massachusetts Democratic socialists lining up to pay more taxes?
Not many. Only 1570 (0.05%) of the 3,214,000 taxpayers opted to pay the higher tax rate last year.
This exposes widespread tax hypocrisy on the left. When they say they want higher taxes, they mean more taxes for thee, not for me.
