This probably sounds like one of those memorable Saturday Night Live parodies of a crazed liberal politician who wants to let criminals free so they can come into your home and kill your puppy.

Sadly, it’s no parody.

Last week, Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Seattle, the head of the House Progressive Caucus, told a House subcommittee hearing that “we are going to have some form of reparations” for illegal immigrants who faced deportation proceedings over the last year.

Nor is Jayapal an outlier in the Democratic Party today.  In 2024, Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy lamented that Democrats hadn’t been able to protect  “the people we care about most, the undocumented Americans that are in this country.”

This may have been a classic Freudian slip, where the politician accidentally tells the truth.
