Another victory for school choice may be in the offing and could keep our string of victories in the states this year rolling into 2024.
Republican Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced this week:
“It’s time for a statewide school choice plan that empowers parents, equips students for success, and allows Tennessee taxpayers to decide how their own dollars are invested.”
Lee is proposing an expansion of a pilot program that allows 3,400 families to use Education Savings Accounts to attend non-public schools to include 20,000 students.
The students would be able to use more than $7,000 a year to pay for private school tuition and other expenses. His plan has already been endorsed by key legislative leaders in the GOP-majority legislature, greatly enhancing its chances of passage and an even greater expansion of the program next year.
