If you’re wondering why our kids are doing so miserably on standardized math tests, look no further than this tweet referencing an effort focused on “deconstructing racism” in math education:
We tracked down the source material:
A line on the first page says it all: “While primarily for math educators, this text advocates for a collective approach to dismantling white supremacy.”
Where is this subversive lunacy coming from? Sadly, much of it is being bankrolled by one of the nation’s most prominent nonprofits: the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Gates is actually funding to the tune of more than $100 million an initiative called “A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction,” a group of 25 education organizations whose curriculum states that asking students to show their work and find the right answer is an inherently racist practice. It is being adopted in many states including California and Oregon.
Bill Gates, who played such a vital role in building our world-class computer industry, should know better. This is a plea to Gates and his Foundation directors to fund math PROFICIENCY, not math DEFICIENCY.
