They are worse so far than the Biden FDA in their pace of approving new drugs. This is unnecessarily keeping potentially life-saving drugs off the market.
Here’s a disturbing chart showing that the FDA had approved only 39 new drugs so far this year through yesterday, on pace to be a lower total than any year of Trump’s first term and three of Biden’s four years.
We are reminded of the words of our hero Milton Friedman:
‘The FDA has already done enormous harm to the health of the American public by greatly increasing the costs of pharmaceutical research, thereby reducing the supply of new and effective drugs, and by delaying the approval of such drugs as survive the tortuous FDA process.’
Most other Trump regulatory agencies are dialing back regulatory overkill, but the FDA gears are grinding more slowly than ever. Even though every delay in bringing a new drug to market means people needlessly suffer and die.
Someone please tell President Trump, who a little over six years ago signed a “right to try” order for drugs deemed safe. Now he has an FDA which has ordered “no right to try.”
