Will the Census Bureau Shaft Red States Again?

Four years ago, the HOTLINE was the first to report that the  US Census Bureau committed egregious statistical errors in the 2020 Census. These miscounts occurred in at least 14 states, according to the bureau’s own later findings. The errors ranged from a low of 1.5% to a high of 7%. Red states with big population gains such as Florida and Texas were cheated out of congressional seats that went to blue states like Rhode Island and Minnesota.

New York was also way overcounted and may have received an extra House seat.

Census Counting Errors in 2020

Republicans probably ended up with at least three fewer House seats as a result of the cheating.

Will the red states get shafted again after the 2030 Census count?

This month, a federal district court in Florida ruled 2 to 1 to dismiss a lawsuit to block shady counting methods in a future Census. The plaintiffs are allowed to make a direct appeal to the Supreme Court and hopefully the justices will hear the case and rule in favor of an honest head count.
