Biden Administration: “There is no crisis at the border.”
Reality test: Border Patrol Apprehensions are higher so far this year than in the previous three years combined. Unaccompanied minors are crossing at three times the rate of last year. Is there a Biden effect?
This piece by governors Doug Ducey of Arizona and Greg Abbott of Texas summarizes the issue nicely.
Opinion | Arizona and Texas governors: The border crisis in our states was created by the Biden administration – The Washington Post
Our solution: Secure the border and increase immigrant visas for those with brains, talents, and a strong work ethic.
2) Unions Got Clobbered in Alabama, So Dems Want to Force Workers to Join Unions Against Their Will
The final votes are in – though the media won’t report them – and the highly publicized and multi-million dollar campaign by Big Labor to unionize 6,000 Amazon workers in Alabama ended in a rout that makes this year’s Super Bowl seem like a close game in comparison. The union/media efforts garnered a pitiful 29% of the vote.
The left thought they’d found the perfect laboratory for union power in Bessemer, Alabama, a former steel town with a rich union history. Some 85% of Amazon’s workers are African-American, and a majority are women. The media portrayal was that the Amazon warehouse was a Dickensian sweatshop and their message to the workers was: all you have to lose is your chains.
Except no one bothered to ask the workers what THEY thought. When they were interviewed after the vote, workers said they felt their pay was adequate, they were treated fairly, and they didn’t see a reason to have hefty union dues deducted from their paychecks. Several noted that national reporters had never asked them what they thought BEFORE the anti-union result.
Unions suffered the same kind of blowout several years ago in Tennessee when the AFL-CIO tried to unionize a Volkswagen plant.
So now, as the union bosses lick their wounds, they are grousing to their Democratic allies in Congress that this all proves the only way the unions can get a fair shake is by having “Card Check” elections instead of secret ballots. This way unions can use old-fashioned intimidation tactics to get the votes they need. Meanwhile, Dems in Congress are moving full-steam ahead with their bill to abolish Right to Work laws in more than half the states. Nancy Pelosi even says with a straight face that forcing workers to join a union against their will is intended to help “working class Americans” – you know, like the workers in places like Bessemer, who’ve just said loud and clear: “We don’t want a union!”
