Speaking of must reads this Christmas weekend, we highly recommend this article penned by one of our favorite communists, Gerard Baker of the Wall Street Journal. Here is a short excerpt, but please download the whole piece:
“Joe Biden’s first year in office has provided a real-time, data-rich, and ultimately devastating case study in the defining conceit of progressive politics: the idea that government is the solution.
The President laid out this persistent delusion in March on the first anniversary of the Covid lockdowns.
“We know what we need to do to beat this virus,” Biden said. “Tell the truth. Follow the science. Put trust and faith on our government to fulfill its most important function, which is protecting the American people.”
When the President made those remarks, there were 527726 deaths from Covid, we know that because he carried a card with the total every day. If he still carries that card, it now registers about 800,000.
Calling this out is not to blame Mr Biden for those deaths as he blamed Trump for a smaller number. It’s to make a broader point. The government’s ability to do much of anything useful, which is attenuated at the best of times, was overstated again and again by his Democratic allies.”
