Sixty years ago, two island nations – Singapore and Jamaica – were about equal in per capita income at about $500.  Singapore went with free market capitalism and is consistently ranked in the top 10 of all countries in economic freedom by the Heritage Foundation. Jamaica tried “Democratic Socialism.”
